Key features:
- CARBON SHELL CONSTRUCTION MULTI-LAYER COMPOSITE DISTRIBUTES ENERGY ON IMPACT
Approved to ECE 22.06, DOT and FIM standards, the shell construction of the Supertech R10 uses an advanced molding technology with a multi-composite combination that includes a 3K high-density carbon outer layer, a unidirectional carbon composite layer, an aramid fiber layer and a fiberglass layer. - The 3K high-density carbon outer layer offers excellent strength and efficiency in energy dissipation across the shell.
- The unidirectional (UD) carbon composite layer provides significantly greater radial strength around the shell, preventing compression while allowing controlled deflection to reduce transmitted impact energy. The aramid fiber and fiberglass layers offer critical penetration protection.
- This layered composite material, created by bonding an advanced epoxy resin already applied to the prepreg fiber, perfectly controls the ideal resin-to-fiber ratio to maximize strength, mechanical performance, and lightness. The combination of material layers offers improved energy management and limited outer shell deflection, distributing energy more widely and absorbing it more effectively by the EPS liner.
- The S-R10’s unique shell construction results in highly effective impact protection. With a fully equipped in-house helmet testing facility at Alpinestars‘ state-of-the-art R&D center, the company has conducted a comprehensive impact research program. Our R&D efforts have demonstrated that the S-R10 delivers linear and oblique impact performance results that far exceed current ECE 22.06 helmet regulation standards. In direct linear impacts, meaning an impact at a 90-degree angle between the helmet and the object, the S-R10 outperforms the standard by an average of 37%. And in rotational acceleration and oblique impact performance, where the impact energy comes from an angle other than a linear 90-degree or right-angle impact, the S-R10 exceeds the standard by 65%.
- INNER SHELL
- The inner shell of the S-R10 consists of EPS in different densities.
- The S-R10 has four inner shells, just like the outer shell, and is available in four anatomical sizes. The S-R10’s construction is optimized to ensure riders have the correct fit, which not only improves comfort and reduces overall weight but, most importantly, enhances the helmet’s effectiveness in an impact. Beneath the helmet’s outer shell is an eight-piece, multi-density EPS liner, with six specific densities strategically positioned in different zones to provide excellent energy absorption from impact forces distributed across the outer shell, as well as a snug and comfortable fit. The EPS liner, like the outer shell, has its own unique dimension for each helmet size, further customizing the helmet’s performance and fit in terms of protection and comfort.
- LINEAR AND INCLINARY FORCE MANAGEMENT
- The EPS inner surface is smooth, creating an optimized, low-friction area for superior oblique impact management.
- When it comes to other types of helmet tests, the best helmets are those that offer protection against rotational, oblique, and linear impact forces.
- To combat and mitigate these rotational, oblique, and linear impact forces, Al
Protection:
- The S-R10’s unique and patented A-Head fit system contributes to personalization and a tailored fit. The A-Head system allows the helmet to be precisely adjusted to the rider’s preferences by modifying both the height and the angle at which the helmet sits on the head. The EPS liner is equipped with the A-Head fit system, enabling ultra-specific adjustments that can be tailored to how deeply the rider’s head sits inside the helmet and how far forward or backward the helmet is tilted.
- AERODYNAMICS
- Developed using CFD simulations, validated in the wind tunnel and on the track, the S-R10 helmet is optimized for low drag performance and maximum aerodynamic stability. The S-R10 has been developed in the wind tunnel at full size since its inception. Aerodynamic targets for drag coefficient in various head positions, as well as stability at different angles, were a primary objective in the development of the helmet shape, which was first extensively developed using Computational Fluid Dynamics, then validated in the wind tunnel at full size, and finally tested on the track. The result is a helmet that achieves the lowest drag and highest aerodynamic stability at high speed compared to any other racing helmet we have tested in the wind tunnel. This has already made the S-R10 the helmet of choice for factory teams in MotoGP, thanks to its superior aerodynamic performance. Road riders also benefit, with reduced neck strain at high speeds and lower wind noise.
- The S-R10 Solid Helmet comes with the Road Aerodynamic Spoiler – and a longer racing version is available as an option – and both are equipped with a release system patented by Alpinestars, with elastic joints that help to detach the spoiler from the helmet shell when subjected to a significant impact, regardless of the angle, in order to reduce potential rotational energy.
- There are also side winglets to further enhance the stability of the S-R10 and improve aerodynamic drag. In addition, the helmet visor features turbulators to improve aeroacoustic performance. Compared to the helmet’s aerodynamic performance with the standard road spoiler, the S-R10 is already the most aerodynamically efficient helmet we have tested, and with the racing spoiler and aero winglets combined, we have achieved an additional 4.54% reduction in drag.
- VENTILATION
- The Supertech R10 helmet contains eleven ventilation points.
- In terms of ventilation and breathability, there are 11 vents (excluding the eye vents), comprising 7 intakes (3 in the chin bar and 4 on top of the helmet) and 4 exhausts (2 side vents on the chin bar and 2 at the rear of the helmet). These vents are integrated directly into the helmet shell, with a series of air channels running through the inner EPS liner. With the S-R10, air flows in through the vents and actively circulates over and around the rider’s head through these channels before being exhausted out the rear of the helmet.
- The top vent features a large central slider that directs air to the top of the head for enhanced comfort. When open, it has vents to exhaust hot air away from the rider’s forehead. Two exhaust vents are located beneath the rear spoiler for effective hot air removal. The chin vents consist of two openings at the front of the helmet, on either side of the visor locking mechanism. Each flap has a tab in the corner used to open or close the vent. Air entering from this point is directed to the inside of the visor, creating a laminar airflow that effectively prevents fogging and misting. Additionally, the chin bar vents are used to expel moist air.
- SIGN FUNCTIONS
- The shield mechanism is equipped with metal locking components to prevent unwanted detachment of the shield upon impact, and is locked in the closed position by a front metal latch.
- The visor has two unique features, including a metal locking lever to prevent unwanted shield detachment in the event of impacts and/or accidents, and a lowered side line for a maximized field of vision, in addition to an already outstanding wide eye port that provides 220 degrees of lateral and 57 degrees of vertical visibility for great riding comfort.
- The shield is attached to the shell via lateral cam mechanisms that allow the shield to rotate and move to fully seal against the helmet’s rubber window gasket.
- Furthermore, the visor can be easily changed or removed thanks to its secure and tool-free quick-change system.
- The S-R10 is equipped with an optical class 1 shield, 3 mm thick, and features a scratch-resistant and anti-fog coating.
- The shield is equipped with internal pins to accommodate a PINLOCK 120XLT – 100% MAX VISION lens, and with external pins to attach tear-off films.
- Includes 2 shields: 1 clear and 1 dark
- REMOVABLE LINING
- The linings are removable and washable and feature fabrics with antimicrobial treatment.
- Crown cushion: The crown cushion and the neck cushion are elastically connected for improved oblique impact absorption.
Construction:
- Another protective feature of the outer shell design is the chin bar profile, where the base area is specially shaped to create a relief zone. The lower profile is raised to keep the collarbone clear, and instead of the hard carbon fiber shell potentially coming into contact with the collarbone, the S-R10 features a softer EPP (expanded polypropylene) liner that extends beyond the helmet shell and is made with a more flexible rubber compound.
